Ahhh.. well this my last weekend of my stay in Japan and at a slight break from my own blog, I was inspired to write of a situation I noticed in the Mandarakes of Akihabara and Nakano Broadway.
In this Otaku haven and I mean it in a good salivating way… (just wait until I write up a post about what I purchased). Anyway at the various sections of what I know as hentai shops or fujoshi shops, the genders are divided as it would under any circumstances.
Even my female friend considers me slightly strange for wanting to go to a hentai shop. It was a slight uncomfortable feeling, when I entered into a hentai shop, okay I was pretty apprehensive. There was no females in the shop, and this is like walking into a porn shop, where you see blatant naked pictures of woman. Only this was naked anime girls.
This is all in the name of searching for Princess Waltz’s Visual Fanbook. Still I looked around the hentai shop, where I check out some potential eroge visual novel and went to the front, where I found the book waiting. So yay! Still this was a strange feeling, one that I never expected to get in a book store. Victoria’s Secret yes, but anime shops… skeptical.

Haha oh wow. That was kinda awkward. I prefer going alone in hentai shops.
Hopefully your friend did not “abandon” you and let you roam the hentai shop alone.
What kind of friend is that!? Ugh.
I wouldn’t say she abandon me, but as she is a working person, and as a self-sustaining anime fan… mostly during my time in Japan I spent days alone. I am not going to defend my friend for things she did not do. I am an adult woman, so I can shop where I want to… she doesn’t have to follow me if staring at breasts are not her things..neither are mine as well. I still have to say that had fun going to the fujoshi shops as well! Just that they weren’t as out in the open on displaying certain merchandises as hentai shops did on the moe aspect.
Yeah. You are already an adult. I forgot that one. Probably Im not allowed to go alone to those kind of shops. ;_;
@Kairu Awkward was the word for it.. well you are a guy so that’s okay.
@Hynavian I went back to the Fujoshi shop and we went to another part of Mandarake. ^_^
It was a purpose of my trip at Mandarake to get a better price for Princess Waltz’s book. Went to panic a bit in my head, breath and then walked resolutely right back into the hentai shop, where I pulled the game from the shelf, and asked them if they had the book.
I forgot to ask. Where are the pictures when you went there? Dont tell me you didnt bring a camera?
I am editing the 1000+ pics I took.. but at a very slow rate, as Book Expo is occurring this weekend and real life comes back for me.
I was so disconnected from other blogs that I never thought you went to Japan…:P…
Sorry for being late on that. Hope We can see nice photos from your trip…:)
Sure.. well no one on blogs really mentions what they do in real time.
Hah! It’s more of a personal blog thing and less of an anime blog thing.
But but.. but.. whats wrong for an anime blog to be made as a personal blog huh? Well, it is YOUR blog right?
Considering ur in Japan, this could be ur only chance to go into both shops and experience at it’s full glory.
Yeah. Youre right. If I were to go in Japan, I would definitely go to ALL shops in there. Including the yaoi shops. Haha.
I got to see what I can handle, and in Japan with the abundance of stores there, there was only so much my brain can take.
How is going to hentai shops and Fujoshi shops full glory? It is not a sex shop.. .so while as overrated as it was. I had an Asian face, so it was natural for me to feel self-conscious. Plus shop keepers looked at me oddly when I entered their hentai shop!
If I didn’t open my mouth, it was easier to pass me off as a Japanese. So if going to only one hentai shop and six fujoshi shops made me not experience the fullness of Japan.. then so be it! Besides the hentai shops in Japan did not sell as much DVDs as I noticed, there was lots of visual novel games, of which I said before I went to Japan that I wasn’t going to go to purchase any. So that cut down on a lot of shops for me. Had fun with the trading carts, artbooks, puzzle shops though. What ever floats your boat will..
Well if you go, definitely mention your experiences.
O_O I dont want to be looked at by people when I go to those shops. Kinda uncomfortable.. and scary..
Well I do want to go to Japan, but my family doesnt want to. ;_;
Sure.. well pave your own experiences then. My mom surely didn’t want me to go. But I went.. and that was it. I went by myself, and stayed with friends in Japan.
If I’m there, I’ll try to visit all shops (hentai or non-hentai) just for the experience. There’s no hentai shops (except for shops that sell sex toys) in Singapore so it’ll be an eye opener to just visit some in Japan.
A shop that sells sex toys? Well that would be the one which isnt gonna be visited by me, a 15-year old boy. Haha.
[...] pencil boards, and an extra puzzle frame. Also a foray into the hentai shop, had me aquiring the Princess Waltz Visual Fanbook. Okay warning, for shoppers.. ask, and you will be obligated to purchase the thing if it is the [...]
