Yeah Hollywood, WHAT’S NEXT!?
Dragonball, Cowboy Bebop, and now Full Metal Panic!?
Zac Efron in talks to star in film of Shoji Gatoh’s high school action comedy
The Mandalay Pictures production studio has licensed the film rights to Shoji Gatoh’s Full Metal Panic! high school action comedy light novels. The story centers around a brusque young sergeant named Sousuke Sagara who must protect an assertive high school girl named Chidori Kaname by masquerading (somewhat unsuccessfully) as a high school student himself. Actor Zac Efron (High School Musical, Hairspray, 17 Again) is reportedly discussing the project.Shikidouji illustrated the original novels, and Retsu Tateo adapted them into manga form (pictured at right). Four television anime series, several spinoff manga, and a video special have since released. ADV Manga released both the first manga series and the Full Metal Panic: Overload! manga spinoff in North America. ADV Films and Funimation have split the North American DVD releases of the different anime series between the two of them.
Please, no more Hollywood live action movies of anime. And better if no one tried to make a live action movie of any anime. Just leave those anime be. It is okay if Hollywood delivered good adaptation of the animes but hell no. Just take the Hollywood adaptation of Dragonball (Haven’t watched it yet but I heard it really sucks), disappointing right?
What’s next? Naruto? Mobile Suit Gundam? Code Geass? The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?
If Hollywood made an adaptation of, a good anime with kickass effects + awesome casts = IM SOLD!
On the side note: Have you watched the Blood + liveaction trailer yet? Awesome I know. And no, its not made by Hollywood.

Zac Efron is also starring on the upcoming Death Note live action Hollywood adaptation.
Thanks for the info. That makes me rage even more. Thanks a lot.
Thats not for sure. Just rumours(last I heard.) Even if he’s got the hair for it. But hairs not everything.
And as for Efron in FMP. For some reason…. I could see him as the lead male(don’t remember the name), don’t get me wrong, I hate High School Musical and Efron, but 17 Again was an alright movie,(if for nothing else than the presence of Matthew Perry) and the boy can act.(I think… I’ve only seen him in one ep of CSI, one ep of some random american lawyer show, and 17 Again. I’ve steered well clear of any Efron I didn’t need to see.
D; nooooooooooooooooooo
& i hope the rumors for the upcoming twilight anime is a lie too D;
TOOOO MUCH RAAAAAAGE! FFFFFFFUUUUUU I heard there is a manga of Twilight. And it was a failure.
I too am concerned, as I voiced in my own blog piece on the subject. There’s always a chance that Hollywood will get it right, but my expectations are zero at this point.
That said, should Hollywood get it right, this would make an excellent franchise.
They will get it right someday. After 1492 anime adaptations they will. O_O

man Hollywood has no idea what they are doing.
I think they have an idea. The only idea they dont know is that we, anime fans are disappointed on what they are doing.
[...] Kairu rants… Yeah Hollywood, WHAT’S NEXT!? [...]
for the love of mankind,
I hope they create their own story and not just rip-off elements from anime. Where is their originality now?
I think they will alter some elements of the story. Musical want? NO. DO NOT WANT!
For years we’ve all shared the dream of introducing our precious anime to the slobbish and barbaric masses of the mainstream; that it’s more than just kids stuff, that creativity is alive and well and that one’s imagination is the sole limiting factor to what stories can accomplish. And look where that’s gotten us.
WHAT HELL HATH WE WROUGHT??!!!
Seconded.
I have lost faith in mankind.
Hollywood’s kind of action just doesn’t fit into the asian market. I mean, c’mon, live movies adaption with westerners (not trying to mean anything here) in it just doesn’t feel right!
I’ll make an example. I’m sure you guys should’ve heard of Jackie Chan, right?
The movies that he directed and made himself, far surpasses the ones that when he is in Hollywood… but that was when he was young and was able to do all the stunts and stuff.
But who can deny that the movies directed and made by him wasn’t better than the ones that was Hollywood’d?
Okay Im confused now.
Oh, I’m sorry xD.
It’s just a little comparison between the Hollywood-directed shows and the self-directed shows.
Some of the chinese actors, such as Jackie Chan and Jet Lee has directed their own shows before going into Hollywood.
Oh yeah. I was a fan of Jackie Chan and Jet Lee. They kickass!
i don’t think jet lee directed any movies except for one in his early days, in 1986.

Dear Hollywood: Please stop ruining my childhood by making adaptations of shows I have fond memories of. Go make your own original stories, you lazy bums.
Great…now I have this weird image of the cast of FMP bursting into song. CURSE YOU ZAC EFRON.
there are some things that are better left in 2D then convert to 3D.
Some? Or do you mean there are NO things that are better left in 2D then convert to 3D?
yeah, no more hollywood anime live-action movie… dragon ball was one of my all time favorite anime, I grow up with it and now they just ruined it (check http://animexarchiculture.wordpress.com )… most review said it’s really bad…
and have you heard about the last air bending controversy? they already planned to make it in a big screen, and guess what? they white washed it.
though, transformer was a good movie. but because it is all about graphics, and less story… and the producers are big timer… that’s why
[...] Everyone has expressed their dismay one way or another, partly due to the fact that Zac Efron might be starring as the main character in the movie, and DB: Evolution (another live action adaptation of the popular Dragon Ball series) has been a complete flunk. [...]
