I cant believe that I have been a proud and happy otaku for almost a year now. For the moment my otaku friends told me to watch ‘this’ certain anime. I thought that “OhGod. Do I need to watch this piece of shit?”. I didnt say that at that time. I think thats very raucous to say in front of my friends. I have no choice but to watch it. Though I want to watch it as mandatory since I want to have a nice conversations with my otaku friends and so I can relate with their otaku-ish conversations.
After watching the ‘piece of shit’ that they wanted me to watch, I kinda liked it.. And so that next day, we have a good conversation about the anime. Oh that was fun having a conversation with sense.
So my otaku adventure began.
The Denoument/Effects of Being an Otaku:
- I spend money to buy anime series dvds. Lots of ‘em.
- I dont use the internet anymore for chatting with random persons, MMOs or any shitty stuffs. I only do otaku-ish stuffs now in the interwebz.
- I merely use the internet everyday.
- I speak and still learning Japanese language.
- I started liking Japan and wishing to go there.
- I now worship Japanese people. O_O
- I watch animes by streaming sites. ( Which I didnt like )
- Everytime my friends and I go to the mall, we always stop by in Otaku-ish stores. And go to the bookstore to find more mangas.
- Im saving money to buy a lot of anime figures. (Esp. Haruhi Suzumiya which I saw in a store)
- I draw anime characters. Even though Im not good at it.
- My cousins, brother and my sister teases me about anime which they say is ‘childish’.

lols. you like lolis? or lolicons? XD
Good thing other people can ride with your interest. I only spout about anime when I know that person is into it— which rarely happens because I only have few friends who does like animes.
I always go to bookstores to look for new mystery/crime novels lol! (inspired by Detective Conan)
/edited
lulz I just edited it.
Yeah. I have like only 2 friends who like animes.
Yeah I go too bookstores too. Search for mangas and also books from Paulo Coelho and other fiction books,. And dont forget the ‘Japanese for Dummies’
lets see …
I don’t buy anime too often, however, when I do buy them I buy a lot.
A friend of mine has been egging me on about learning Japanese, but the moment I look at the alphabet I just feel like giving up.
I avoid streaming sites like the plague (if a series if good, it deserves to be watched in all its HD glory)
Everytime my friends and I go to the mall, we always stop by in Otaku-ish stores. And go to the bookstore to find more mangas. A new figure store just opened within short walking distance to my house, my wallet is now as skinny as Lelouch.
I almost never draw fanart but anime did get me into drawing.
Every single one of my relatives who know about me teases me about anime which they say is ‘childish’.
I watched at least 65 animes so far. (Not including the OVAs ans Specials)
I bought a lot ofmanga.
I bought anime posters and posted it in my room.
I’ve never really had a dislike for lolies, except those ones who look too young and inhumane.
Im always updated with anime news.
I bought anime magazines.
I sing Jsongs.
my This blog.. is born
“my This blog.. is born”
You forgot to erase the ‘this’ part XD
We are so totally the same in the aftermaths of us being otaku..
ohwow.
Oh wow. I’ve been otaku for around a year and three quarters, now, and I just realized. Some of the things that have changed about me:
First and foremost. I became a yaoi fan. ‘Nuff said.
I spend around anywhere from 20 to 40 bucks on manga per month. That adds up to a minimum of 240 per year. Woah.
The interwebz is MY LIFE. And my classmates laugh at me for it.
I switched to FiOS ONLY because they have the Funimation channel.
My friends are all otaku, but not as hardcore as me. >___<
This is solid proof I’m otaku: I brought a manga to school one day (I mean every day), and one time I misplaced it by my locker soemwhere. Some kid I don’t even know came up to me after phys ed with it in his hands, and said “I saw this on the ground and I knew it was yours.” Lol.
^ O_O So Im assuming your an otaku girl. ’cause you like yaoi. ’cause if youre a boy then it would be weird.
I dont bring mangas at school though. They’ll say im weird.
I’m not otaku, but I like buying posters and a few figurines, just never too much, but my room’s still pretty plain. I consider watching anime as one of my hobbies ‘cos if I don’t do a lot of different things, I tend to get over whatever I’m doing pretty easily. My friends still roll their eyes when I mention anime though, and whenever I talk about Criminal Minds (tv drama) because I’m quite obssessed with that too.
^ O_O youre not!?
Yeah. Watching animes is like a hobby for me cause if I dont, then I dont have anything to do.
Oh yes. Criminal Minds. I love that. I do non-otaku stuffs too. Like watching CSI and reading books (esp. the Twilight saga which im still not finished.)
Otaku. It’s the only way to live. Here’s hoping to many more years of prosperous otaku living. Kampai!
^ Yes Yes! I sure do hope that I will grow up a happy otaku.
Hmmm as for me,
1) I’m utilising my laptop and the streaming sites more than my plasma tv.
2) Spending more money on manga & collecting more manga than storybooks.
3) I also have a healthy mix of anime OP & EDs in my mp3 player.
4) More interest in the Japanese language though I’ve started learning the language way before liking anime or manga.
5) Blogging. Everything started with an anime blog on riuva.
they saw im anime mad. because..
1)I buy anime dvds
2)I spend money on anime op/ed singles
3)I buy figurines
4)I buy character goods(posters, cushion covers,cups,etc)
5)I buy anime magazines
6)I want to go japan
7)Want to learn japanese but too busy and lazy
8)I do anime blogging
9)I’m quick in anime news.. sorta.. LOL
10)I have around 129 anime series watched/watching. @_@
11)I spend more time at the computer
12)I buy mangas
13)my room is an anime shrine. LOL
hm. long list. lol
@Kairu Ishimaru:
Shit, I come across another Twilight fan. I can never escape from them. lol, my entire school is obssessed with that book, and so is my older sister. I like the sound of the characters, but Edward’s too perfect of a guy. I like Jasper and Alice though, even though I’ve never read the book, I still like their names. Good thing it’ll be hitting the cinemas soon. I think if I like the movie, I’ll read the book, like I did with Harry Potter.
And OMG! A Criminal Minds fan?! I love Dr. Reid Spencer, so keep your hands off him lol. He’s so cute ‘cos he’s so dorky and has no social skills. Actually, all the characters are pretty much okay too.
I’d force you to read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, but I can’t lol. You should read it because all Twilight fans adore this book, and some say its better than Twilight. The cover of City of Bones might not get your interest, but you’ll definitely love it because it’s action-packed and has loads more of fighting than all that lovey-dovey wushy stuff. Plus the dialogue is hilarious and the characters are awesome. And the main chick likes to watch anime
@hynavian: Oh I forgot to add your no. 3 on my list.. /edits the post.
@zenical: #13 on your list was funny. haha.
@blissmo: Yeah. Im a Twilight fan. I came to be a fan of it because its so ‘in’ these days. I really hate romance book though. But I really liked this book.
Harry Potter? Yes. Im a fan of it too. I’ve read 4,6,7 and the rest I did watch on the movies. lulz I really love chapter 3 of Twilight muahaha XDD
City of Bones? I never heard of that. Ill try to go to the bookstore.. (Ill resist the urge to go look for a manga XD)
Forget all that; Becoming an otaku turned me into something that I used to despise, which is none other than being a lolicon. I now embrace it as my religion.
^ O_ O a religion eh? That reminds me of me worshiping Haruhi Suzumiya. XDD
I read city of bones, but I didn’t really like it. Felt too……. generic fantasy-ish. A pretty good way to pass time though.
^ So you have reading the comments on this post lately eh? XD
[...] City of Bones is so twisted and unexpected that you just can’t predict what will happen next. Choux admitted that this story “felt too generic fantasy-ish“, and in fact, it is, very. If you try to imagine the Forsaken (Valentine’s fugly [...]
so what is that ‘piece of shit’ turned you into an otaku?
I think I begin to think myself as an otaku a year ago; before that, I do watch anime often and play MMORPG everyday… and 98% in my iPod are anime song; well… and still not consider myself an otaku until I start collecting figures.
I guess I cannot call myself a hardcore otaku but I really like anime, along with many other stuff.. It’s just one of my hundred hobbies XD…
And to comment on some:
“I spend money to buy anime series dvds. Lots of ‘em”
>> Me too XD (though some of them are pirated XD Shhh!)
“I started liking Japan and wishing to go there.”
>> OMG me too!
“I now worship Japanese people. O_O”
>> Umm O_O Okay?
“I watch animes by streaming sites. ( Which I didnt like )”
>> You can download torrents so that it can be in High Quality ^_^
“Everytime my friends and I go to the mall, we always stop by in Otaku-ish stores. And go to the bookstore to find more mangas.”
>> Comic Alley or Greenhills? XD… Honestly, I hide myself when I go to those places
“I draw anime characters. Even though I’m not good at it.”
>>I also draw too and create my very own anime characters XD
“My cousins, brother and my sister teases me about anime which they say is ‘childish’.”
>> OMG when someone said that to me on school, I totally bitch off that guy. Anime is not only for chidren!
“I now like lolis.”
>> *runs away*
“I started to have crushes.. on 2D girls. ”
>> I developed a fetish on guys wearing glasses because of anime XD… On girls, I also have some anime girl-crushes 0_O…
“I started greeting my friends.. the Japanese way. ( E.G “Konynyochiwa~”, “Nyoron~!”, “Ossu!”, Mosh Mosh!~” )”
>>Umm… That would be impossible for me because I’m like, so not otaku on school and I kinda protect my social status in school XD…
“I hated my own country.”
>>Lol XD
“This blog.. is born. :”
>>Yep. That has to be the biggest effect of all ^_^.
“I have like only 2 friends who like animes.”
>> I envy you that you have total otaku friends… Yes, I have plenty of friends but they are like, more on the society, and I remember my CosMania incident where they whine (a lot) and just ruined my day. I have a seatmate who’s a hardcore otaku but he’s too quiet and me scared to befriend him XD…
@lsio: I avoid playing MMO. Since its very very addictive.
@kanzeon:
“Me too XD (though some of them are pirated XD Shhh!)”
- Like hell. Me too. Most of them (actually all of them) are pirated. Like duuh? I have money to buy for an original but nowhere to buy one.
“You can download torrents so that it can be in High Quality ^_^”
-I hate torrents. It slow-en my interweb conn. And I dont care about HD whatsoever.
“Comic Alley or Greenhills? XD… Honestly, I hide myself when I go to those places”
-Comic Alley only. Thats the only place I know. O_O Greenhills? Is there like otaku stuffs there!? Then Ill go there! XD But Greenhills is so big, can you show me where? hahas~
“I envy you that you have total otaku friends… ”
-Actually they lured me on being an otaku. But honestly, im MORE otaku than them. ^^ And oh. My otaku friends increased too, but only in the net. And that includes you.
“I now like lolis”
Now if only you’ll discover the beauty of meidos and mikos…
^ oooh ooh ooh! Yes! Meidos are the bestest EVAR!
Too bad maids don’t exist in real life… at least the young, attractive, legal (or are they…?) ones.
Always fun to have some anime/manga converts to hang out with. The average person would not know, nor appreciate, the dangers of Mei’s “onii-chan~” MOE bomb.
^ Yeah ;__; I hope they are real.
Mei-chan lulz its a trap.
um wtf, I mean, I’m a type/moon fanboy but I don’t own much merchandise.
Also, if that manga you bought isn’t tsukihime, rage will be born.
^ The manga I bought was an instant sucker. It was pretty lame and unpopular.
“My cousins, brother and my sister teases me about anime which they say is ‘childish’.”
I wish you were my relative, and if I found out you’re an Anime Freak, Hell, I’ll gladly lend to you some of my Anime DVDs and talk about the latest Anime and Manga infos.
I’m 24 and yet, my love of JapAnime and JapCulture amazes me.
Keep it up.
^ Lolyeah. I would like to meet another otaku here in the Philippines!
